Early Childhood Educator L1/L2/L3

General duty responsibilities:

  •  Developing and implementing a program as per our daycare curriculum (which follows FLIGHT/Emergent curriculum, etc.)
  •  Maintaining an environment that protects the well-being and safety of children Top priority!
  •  Assessing the abilities, interests, and needs of children and discussing progress with parents and other staff
  •  Establishing collaborative relationships with co-workers, management, and families
  •  Attending staff meetings and professional development opportunities as necessary
  •  Working to maintain the cleanliness and organization of classroom materials
  •  Able to involve themselves in active supervision of the children under care
  •  Assist with the cleaning and organization of the designated room and equipment in accordance with Alberta Child Care Licensing/AHS Regulations
  •  Other duties as assigned

Program Duties for Level 3/Level 2 Include:

  •  Help with program planning and implementation (developmentally appropriate experiences) to enhance the child’s social, physical, intellectual, cognitive, and emotional development
  •  Incorporate learning experiences designed to meet the individual needs of the children
  •  Monitor children to ensure safety during play by organizing various indoor and outdoor activities that encourage sharing and safe interaction with other children
  •  Ensure that appropriate child discipline methods (positive child guidance) are used, communicated, and enforced

Administrative Duties Level 3 or Level 2 (if required or support provided) Include:

  •  Promote a respectful, positive environment
  •  Maintain all appropriate records and documentation and ensure that they are complete and up-to-date
  •  Track information, including attendance, sign-in sheets, and student counts, at all times
  •  Display and promote a positive, cheerful attitude and helpful approach
  •  Maintain confidentiality on all issues related to daycare

Qualifications:

  •  Level 2 or Level 3: 2 plus years of work experience preferred in the child care field
  •  Level 1: 1 year of experience and more for Level 1
  •  A current Criminal Check and Vulnerable Sector Search (dated not earlier than 6 months prior to the start date)
  •  CPR/First Aid Certificate
  •  Knowledge about Alberta Child Care Regulations, the Alberta Health Services’ Health and Safety Regulations and Alberta Child Care Accreditation Standards, FLIGHT (or willing to know and learn)
  •  Must be knowledgeable in dealing with child care-related issues, including daily interaction with parents
  •  A passion for working with children
  •  Excellent interpersonal skills; well-organised and approachable
  •  Open to continuous learning and improvement
  •  A respectful and responsible team Player
