Nutrition

At ACP, meal time is considered a very special time where children not only eat and enjoy food but also strengthen their bonds with other children and their educators. We believe in relaxed and enjoyable mealtimes. Children eat at their own pace. A weekly planned menu containing a variety of meal and snack items cooked at ACP Kitchen is posted near the programme entrance, where parents are able to view it daily. It is rotated on a weekly basis and modified seasonally. In general, meals are considered at ACP as an imperative chance for children to not only nourish themselves but also to develop relationships with their peers and educators. The method is relaxing and fun, allowing children to eat at their own leisure.

  •  Menus posted align with a food guide recognised by Health Canada or Alberta Health and support the appropriate nutrition needs of the children.
  •  All food comes from an approved, inspected source.
  •  Nutritious food with a combination of protein foods (meat and alternatives), fruit, vegetables, and whole grains is offered several times in a day (3 meals and 2-3 snack times usually).
  •  Milk and water are provided with each meal.
  •  We are a nut-free facility, and we take care of food sensitivities and allergies to ensure the safety and well-being of the children in our centre.
  •  ACP will reduce the availability and limit the sugar, sodium, and saturated fat content of foods offered.
  •  Foods with choking hazards will be avoided. Food like meat, eggs, fish, etc. will be cooked well.
  •  Mothers will be supported to breastfeed the babies at the centre.
  •  Foods that contain mostly unsaturated fat will be replaced by foods that contain mostly saturated fat.
  •  Nutritious foods will reflect cultural preferences and food traditions on a monthly basis. Parents are invited to share their traditional foods.
  •  Food will be provided to before and after school' children too, along with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Guidelines for feeding infants and toddlers?

Breastfeeding is a crucial and beneficial practice that provides essential nutrients, antibodies, and enzymes for healthy development and growth. It is easily digestible and tailored to meet a baby's nutritional needs. Breastfeeding reduces the risk of diseases like obesity, diabetes, and cancer, and promotes emotional bonding between mother and child. It is a natural and convenient way to provide nourishment to infants, supporting their growth and well-being.
